Online Backgammon Opening Moves Online backgammon is a fun and highly challenging game. Just like live backgammon, you will need a combination of luck and skill to be successful. Online however, you may face a wider and more challenging variety of opposition than you may be used to playing in your local area. To win these online backgammon games, it's important to have some understanding of opening strategy. There are a few opening rolls where you should automatically know what to do.
Online Backgammon Opening Roll: 3-1 If you roll a 3-1 on your opening roll, your best move is to cover your five point. This makes it more difficult for your opponent’s checkers in your home board. It also assures that you will not leave one of your checkers open early, resulting in a quick hit you will need to recover from right away.
Online Backgammon Opening Roll: 6-1 Similar to the 3-1, covering the seven point with this roll makes things tough on your opponent’s back checkers and leaves none of your pieces exposed.
Online Backgammon Opening Roll: 6-5 Move one of your back checkers all the way over to the twelve point.
Online Backgammon Opening Roll: 4-2 Make your four point. These opening moves should get you started, although a basic backgammon strategy primer can give you even more online backgammon opening ideas. Your basic goal should be to either cover points in or near your home board to obstruct the opponent’s back checkers, to safely bring your back checkers out of your opponent’s home board and to avoid leaving exposed blots for your opponent to hit, especially close to your own home board.
